Our accredited tutor supported or self-study distance learning TESOL courses are perfect for teachers who are currently working or otherwise engaged and unable to attend onsite classes. Distance learning courses are no different from our onsite courses and contain the same topics and follow the same schedule. Please be advised that our distance learning TESOL courses are not "online" courses - we send teachers training materials and all assignments must be completed and sent to us via email to a designated TESOL trainer. We chose this format because in many countries (such as Saudi Arabia), online courses are not recognized and one cannot be legally employed after taking an online course. Our distance learning courses are valid for all countries across the world and will put you a step ahead of teachers who chose to gain their training via online TESOL providers.

Currently we offer both our 120 Hour TESOL Certificate and 220 Hour TESOL Diploma courses through distance learning.

When taking a tutor supported distance learning TESOL course, you will be assigned an individual TESOL trainer who will guide and help you along the way - all TESOL trainers are foreign teachers with years of education and ESL experience. As one of only a few TESOL companies, we also provide all tutor supported distance learning teachers with a practicum component to be taken at the end of the course (which is included in the price of tuition). Teachers can choose to do their practicum with us in Kunming, Zhuhai or Hong Kong (teaching within local schools) or through Citrix GoToMeeting (online HD audio and video software) from the comfort of their home (Citrix GoToMeeting is also available for the iPhone, iPad and Android based devices making your learning a mobile experience).

When taking a self-study distance learning TESOL course, you will arrange your TESOL practicum on your own, but Acadia TESOL Academy will provide assistance and guidance.  You must spend 20 hours in a live ESL learning environment observing an ESL class, and/or practice teaching and tutoring ESL students in some capacity.

Opportunities to complete your TEFL practicum and practice teaching can typically be arranged in your community in these types of venues, which often offer ESL classes:

• Community centers
• Community colleges
• Language schools
• Local organizations that provide services to recent immigrants
• Faith-based groups that offer ESL classes
• Libraries

Once the TESOL practice teaching hours have been completed, the student provides an evaluation form, time sheet and one-page summary of their experience to the Acadia TESOL Academy Student Affairs Department.

Tuition fees include the following:

1. Digital copy of either the 120 or 220 course book (a printed copy can be purchased at extra cost and shipped directly to you by international courier).
   
2. TESOL Certificate or Diploma and a full transcript (this includes international courier fees...we send your Certificate or Diploma by DHL or FedEx). We will also email you digital copies of your Certificate or Diploma for safekeeping.
3. All external moderation fees.

7. 24 / 7 assistance during the duration of your distance learning studies (Self-Study and Tutor Supported).

Our TESOL trainers and the Course Director recommend that teachers complete their studies within 8 weeks (when taking the 120 Hour Distance Learning TESOL Certificate) or 10 weeks (when taking the 220 Hour Distance Learning TESOL Diploma). Please be advised that there is no set time limit to complete any of the distance learning courses - teachers can work at their own individual pace and manage their learning to fit their lifestyle. Before starting any of the distance learning courses, the TESOL trainer assigned to you will prepare a study plan based on your feedback and recommendations - this way both parties will know what to do and what to expect when it comes to course learning and completion.

Course Work - You will be provided with a digital copy (in PDF format) of either the 120 or 220 course book. After reading through each chapter (module) you will be given written tasks and assignments which need to be completed and sent to your assigned TESOL trainer. The TESOL trainer will then read through your written assignments and give feedback and improvement suggestions.

Weekly Tutorials (For Tutor Supported Courses Only) - Each week, after completing your assigned chapters (modules), your TESOL trainer will book a one-on-on tutorial with you at your convenience (most teachers prefer weekends). During this tutorial (which will take place over Citrix GoToMeeting), the TESOL trainer will again go over your assignments and offer improvement suggestions. This is also a great time for you to ask questions and clarify anything you have problems with making sure that all lesson content is understood. TESOL trainers will also give assignments where you will be required to practice teach a certain aspect of the material live over Citrix GoToMeeting. Weekly tutorials last about 1 to 2 hours.

Online / Onsite Practicum (For Tutor Supported Courses Only) - As one of only a few TESOL companies, we provide all our teachers with a practicum component even when they complete their course work through distance learning. The practicum will consist of a total of 20 hours and you will teach a wide variety of students through Citrix GoToMeeting from the comfort of your home. We also offer an option for all our distance learning teachers to do their practicum with us in Kunming, Zhuhai or Hong Kong. The onsite practicum will take 5 days to complete and you will teach within a number of different educational institutions teaching a wide variety of students. This is a great option for teachers who wish to experience a real life classroom setting before embarking on their own ESL adventure.
